    • Synopsis
    • An elderly couple lives on an isolated hill. Evangelina has been ailing for a very long time. On this night, Amancio quietly accompanies her, with words, whispers
and silence, through the dark hours until daybreak, to the moment of her death.
Now utterly alone, Amancio oversees the various tasks for her burial: he scrubs her dress in a stream, digs her grave, and gently bathes and grooms her. His actions become gradually infused with the power of ritual, as he comes to embrace his solitude and loss. At the end of the day, Amancio carries Evangelina to her grave and lowers her into the ground. He shovels the dirt back into the pit and parts with his companion, now resting beneath the earth.
