    • Synopsis
    • A year after her mother's death, CLARA (12) and her father VOLKER, a German geologist, move to the Cerro Rico mountain in the Andes, where Volker is asked by the Bolivian government to assess the safety of centuries-old silver mines. Clara is in a twist with him, as she doesn't give up searching for a contact with her mother's soul. When Clara learns from the locals about El Tio, a spirit that haunts the mines and about the trapped souls inside the mountain, she asks her father to take her to the mines with him. But Volker refuses, as the mines aren't safe and could collapse at any time.
At school Clara meets JUAN (13), who burns to prove the existence of a new silver vein in the Cerro Rico and thus rehabilitate his father, a miner who became deadly ill by stubbornly digging for that vein against the other miners' advice. Clara secretly joins Juan in his treasure hunt and helps him by stealing a powerful metal detector from her father. The device confirms the presence of silver just where Juan‘s father stopped digging and Juan blows the rock with dynamite. A large cave opens up, but through a leak of poisonous gas the kids fall in a coma. Meanwhile outside the mine Volker denounces its high risk of collapse and unaware that the kids are inside, orders the government to seal its entrance. Trapped at the threshold between life and death, the kids meet the imprisoned souls at the heart of the mountain and their guardian, El Tio. Juan tries to fight him, but El Tio knocks him off and takes Clara‘s soul on a journey to fulfill her deepest wish: she‘s finally able to reunite with her mother. In a final struggle against time, Juan manages to free the imprisoned souls, among them his own father. Volker finds the children, but Clara seems dead. It is only after her soul decides to bid farewell to her mother, that the actual Clara comes back to life...
