    • Synopsis
    • ‘Pae’, a ne’er-do-well twelfth grader, is facing a turning point in his life when the university entrance exam is approaching.

As a typical teenage boy without passion, Pae is put under tremendous pressure when his strict dad demands that he has to be accepted into a top state university only.
Pae’s trouble seems to be resolved when a Communication Arts faculty at a prominent university opens for direct admission, which requires the candidates to produce and submit a short film for consideration.

Pae believes that making a short film must be easier than studying for the exam. He then sets his mind on becoming a film director even though he has zero-to-none experience in filmmaking. Pae decides to make a movie about ‘Joe’, his deskmate, who is killed in a car accident a few months ago. Hoping that a story about a lost friend will touch and impress the
      university admission committees.

However, the biggest challenge apart from having no knowledge about filmmaking is that Pae and Joe are ‘not’ really friends. He doesn’t know anything about Joe, the subject of his short film at all!

Pae’s chaotic mission of producing a biopic of a fake close friend begins with the help of a group of nerds from the audiovisual club. This short film project then becomes acknowledged by the entire school. Additional pressure is added from Joe’s family who financially supports Pae with the family’s own savings so he can make the movie about their son. But
nothing is more threatening to Pae’s mission than a girl named ‘Bokeh’, who used to be Joe’s true close friend. She realizes what Pae is up to and becomes the major obstacle filling Pae’s filmmaking experience with conflicts, twists and turns.

NOT FRIENDS is a feel-good, dramedy from GDH that will bring the audience back to the beautiful nostalgic memories about those who are ‘not’ close friends in your life with a mission that celebrates the wonders of ‘filmmaking’.
