    • 1906. Hanna Leitner, a mother of two, travels from Vienna to a new-founded sanatorium in the south of Switzerland in order to escape her bourgeois role as well as her husband, who sexually harasses her. The soon infamous sanatorium Monte Verità draws in artists, idealists and those in search of meaning. In therapy sessions with the charismatic young psychoanalyst Otto Gross, Hanna soon realizes the true cause of her deep fears and her mental illness. Torn between feelings of guilt towards her family and a deep fascination for the life at Monte Verità, Hanna overcomes her initial resistance to the sanatorium's uninhibited lifestyle and also discovers the art of photography. Alongside the young Hermann Hesse and Ida Hofmann, the founder of Monte Verità, it is especially Lotte Hattemer, the daughter of Berlin's mayor, who challenges Hanna to find her own voice. The mysterious and fascinating young woman casts a spell over Hanna that she cannot escape - until their relationship is put to the greatest possible test.
