In the 1944 Nazi-occupied France, young writer Marguerite Duras is an active Resistance member, along with her husband, author and publisher Robert Antelme. When he is arrested and sent to Buchenwald, an agonizing wait starts for Marguerite, in the chaos of the Liberation of Paris. The film leads us through those endless days of pain. As she is torn apart between her missing husband and the poet Dyonis she is falling for, she develops a chilling relationship with Gestapo agent Rabier taking terrible risks to save Robert.
