    • Synopsis
    • I Am, I Can is a poignant and powerful biopic tracing the multifaceted life of Minu Bakshi — a woman whose voice, words, and willpower have carved an unforgettable legacy in music, poetry, and cultural advocacy.

From the soulful lanes of Urdu poetry to the vibrant rhythms of Punjabi folk music, Minu’s journey is one of fearless self-expression and boundless creativity. Inspired by the legendary Begum Akhtar, her early immersion in Urdu poetry laid the foundation for a life steeped in art and empathy. Her voice, trained yet instinctively emotional, found its way to Punjabi folk traditions — connecting deeply with the roots of her culture. Her collaboration with pop singer Mika brought a refreshing fusion to the music scene, showcasing her ability to bridge the traditional with the contemporary.

Never one to confine her thoughts, Minu began penning poetry that resonated with raw emotion and nuanced insight. Year after year, her poetry books followed — each one a deeper revelation of her inner world. Her verses, often described as bold and evocative, earned admiration from stalwarts across art and film.

Shabana Azmi remarked, "Minu romances with her poetry with front-footed honesty — there’s no hiding behind metaphors."
Sharmila Tagore celebrated her fearless artistic spirit, noting, "Minu will sing anywhere, anytime — without any fuss, only joy."
Muzaffar Ali and Javed Akhtar have both lauded the depth and elegance of her poetic expressions, recognizing her as a rare voice that blends tradition with personal truth.

I Am, I Can is not just a film — it’s an ode to resilience, feminine strength, and the audacity to dream across languages, genres, and borders. It’s the story of a woman who redefined identity through melody and verse — who didn’t just live many lives, but sang them into being.
