For millennia an alien race has come to earth and those who survive the journey have assimilated themselves into civil society, with the aim to help protect the planet from itself. A cabal of nation states and conglomerates agreed these invaders needed controlling or culling. They hunted them down, narrowing their scope to a handful of hotspots around the globe. Their gateways uncovered, a fresh way of intercepting the alien upon arrival was instigated. Hidden away from prying eyes, in the emerald climes of a Northern England forest, one such alien hotspot exists. ‘Shackville’, the British equivalent of a US trailer park, made up of makeshift chalets and tired mobile homes, has for the last 50 years wrapped a protective glove around the world as these confused, human-like arrivals stumble onto earth.
On arrival the Alien beings have no knowledge of what it is to be human. Like recent amnesiacs they struggle to breathe and cope with the bright daylight, must learn to eat, drink and talk. Through interaction with the residents of Shackville, they learn to employ the traits and tics of the human race and eventually become useful and productive members of a capitalist society. And if they don’t conform there is always CODE RED…
ELLIS wakes up in a makeshift bivouac by a tree with a yellow ribbon tied around its trunk. He’s unaware of what he is, let alone his reason for being here. His instinct to survive kicks in as he adapts quickly to his new surroundings and conditions. He finds shelter in what appears to be an abandoned shack – this is part of Shackville and it’s no accident he’s found his way here.
In Shackville Ellis stumbles upon the strangest bedfellows to aid his survival and satisfy his companionship needs. To the untrained eye the residents of Shackville appear to a mixed bunch of human types, with different classes, political leanings and sexualities all present: JEAN, the liberal hippie, her football mad son, BRADLEY and repressed homosexual libertarian STEVE. This triumvirate of local charm and eccentricity are in fact his government sponsored surrogate family for the next week of intense reintegration....
