Days of Cannibalism is a triptych, a Western set in contemporary Africa. It’s a man-eat-man story, where the threat is in the business of globalised trade in China, but also within a band of smugglers in Lesotho who play cards in the village bar named “Days of Cannibalism” and in the violence of a cattle raid deep in the high mountains of Lesotho. The trail starts in a hotel in Guangzhou China. The ‘foreigner’ is staying at the Xiushan Building Business Apartment and offers to take a letter by the young Chinese receptionist to her lover who has started a business in Africa. His motives aren’t purely altruistic. At the “Days of Cannibalism” bar, following a rumour about the Chinese involvement in a cattle raid, the narrator is offered a trip up the mountains to a cattle farm. This is where the final act of ‘cannibalism’ takes place. Days of Cannibalism is a film about the relationship between Africa and China today – about the power structure and those who are affected by it.
