    • An elderly woman named “Old Beauty” lives in a southern Chinese city, she is over seventy years old. Everyone calls her “Grandma”. Grandma tells us a moving love story of her own: In early 1960s, she was named for her beauty in her village. This pretty girl was chosen to go to the provincial capital to study culture and dance. At a ceremony, Former President Zhou Enlai welcomed the Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh. A Chinese general met this lady and fell in love with her from then on, this general suddenly disappeared …
Grandma was given an opportunity to go to Beijing and join the People’s Liberation Army, but she chose to return to her hometown to be with the man she loved. Three days after they married she found out that he had a lover, in her anger she left immediately and spent the next fifty years in the countryside as a farmer.
The story was told by Grandma’s family members, who gently and delicately portrayed the rich emotional life of a seventy-year old woman and highlighted the different views and life styles between two generations. Grandma was young during the 1950s and 1960s, she sang revolutionary songs, nostalgically recalling her youthful beauty. She recited Chairman Mao’s famous words: The world is yours, as well as ours, but in the final analysis it is yours…
One day an old friend of grandma comes to visit her and brings a photograph taken in her youth, she falls into a jungle of emotions …
