    • Synopsis
    • Greece is a paradise bathed in sunshine and blessed with innumerable islands and beaches. But when Summer is over and the tourists have left, strange things sometimes happen! It is a time of year which many diaspora Greeks, of which there are hundreds of thousands in Australia and the US, have never experienced.

In "Winter on Kythera" a young woman escapes to the Greek island of Kythera to live in an isolated shack. But has she really escaped? The film, like the season, has it's sunny moments mixed with ferocious winds and torrential rain. And, despite her attempts to avoid contact, there are more than just a few goats to deal with, even on the sparsely populated Kythera.

Actress Maria Thanas stars in this journey of body and mind. Together with amazing local acting talent, together they cross paths at unexpected intervals. Although broadly a comedy, Winter on Kythera is never short of contemplative moments, which are authentic parts of every island existence.
