    • Synopsis
    • Hasan is a twelve-year-old boy who is struggling to survive in a mountain village with his two younger siblings. The family falls into poverty when his father goes to prison. His mother starts to work as a caretaker in town. The film tells the story of a day in the life of Hasan, who tries to sell ayran (yogurt drink) even though it is the middle of winter, looking for a solution to their situation.
Very early one winter morning Hasan goes to the teahouse with his large jug full of ayran. Recep, who runs the teahouse, is passionately awaiting news from his beloved. Kadir Dede has come to the teahouse to sell his winter pears. A Young Passenger on an approaching minibus has been appointed someplace he does not want and is separated form his fiancée.
On his way home, a very tired, hungry and thirsty Hasan hears the howls of approaching wolves and starts to run, scared. While the shouts of his mother, who is searching for him, mixes in with the howls of the wolves, Hasan is on the other side of the forest…
The film not only tells the story of Hasan, a boy who is clinging to life with a great love for his mother within the framework of a small village of poverty and the deadlock of their deprivations and what he goes through trying to make a living selling ayran, but also the people around him as they try to settle their own scores with their lives and themselves. White as Snow shows us how our lives are all connected to one another, how we are responsible for each other, how a seemingly insignificant act in one person’s life can have such a big impact on someone else’s.
However dark Sabahattin Ali’s stories may be, this work of art that Selim Güneş and his crew set out with determined hearts to create under difficult conditions, symbolizes hope for humanity in itself. They create hope out of hopelessness.
With White as Snow, Selim Güneş salutes a quote he loves from John Lennon, “While there’s life, there’s hope”.
