    • Synopsis
    • JING, a high school city girl and a picture of innocence, travels to a remote mountain village to be “re-educated” during the turbulent Cultural Revolution. The unassuming Jing lives her life with extreme caution: as her father languishes in prison for being a “rightist,” her ostracized mother tries to support her three children by doing menial labor in spite of her poor health. Jing knows that her future hinges on how well she behaves in the eyes of the powers that be. One wrong move and their lives could be ruined forever.
Jing’s quiet existence takes a turn when she falls for the dashing SUN, a charming young soldier who is the son of a military family, an elite member of society’s “most favored.” Jing’s family history makes her “least favored” in society, and any romantic entanglements between the two would spell nothing but trouble.
In spite of this, their mutual attraction is fierce and undeniable. Jing tries to resist Sun but he remains persistent in his pursuit of her, helping her and visiting when he can. Their love blossoms even as they must keep it a secret, especially from Jing’s mother. When Jing decides to risk it all for Sun, she must confront ideas about love, honor, and loyalty and ultimately decide what she truly believes in.
