    • Synopsis
    • Jitvapur, India, 1975/1986. Jitvapur is more than a tiny, dusty village somewhere in India. It is the home of Udai, who left the town for a bigger and better life in America, or "Umrika" as they call it. Although Udai's much younger brother Ramakant has no idea why America should be bigger and better, the letters Udai sends from far, far away at least cheer up Mother and Father, which is already a welcome result. Ramakant leads a happy life, albeit in the shadow of his adored but absent brother. Then, tragedy strikes and Father dies in an accident. Rummaging in his things, Ramakant finds hints that the letters from America may not be from America at all... Moreover, Udai seems to have disappeared. Convinced that his mother will not survive the loss of both her husband AND her favorite son, Ramakant sets out with his best friend Lalu to find Udai and bring him home. It is a voyage to find the life he long believed his brother was living, a life that finally belongs to him alone. A life in Umrika.
