    • Synopsis
    • RENATA’s (50, white) happiness is shattered when her son, LUCAS (20, white) is shot and killed in a robbery. She loses her will to live and is unable to move on. The only thing that gives her strength is her determination to find the killer and put him in jail. Investigating on her own, she helps find a suspect and finds relief when he's brought into custody. In court, as she celebrates the judge’s decision to hold the accused until trial, she is approached by the suspect’s father. She rushes away in fear.

As she drives away, we stay with the father, MARCELO (42, black) and shift to his point of view. Going back in time, we follow the lives of Marcelo and his son JOÃO PEDRO (19, black). We see how much they love each other, and it becomes increasingly clear the boy is innocent. Marcelo goes through great pains to try to release his son. He finds a video placing the boy kilometers away at the time of the murder, but it's no use. Marcelo slams into the Brazilian judicial system. It’s a wall of bureaucracy and racism.

Finally, as a last resort, he approaches Renata again, who agrees to watch the video. Now she’s convinced of João Pedro’s innocence. That makes her feel terrible; not only because her son’s killer is still out, but because she helped imprison an innocent guy.

The two of them make a pact to work together to get João Paulo out of jail. Renata and Marcelo become closer and find points in common in their otherwise such different personalities.

Through a private detective, they find TIAGO, the real killer. They have to risk everything to help imprison the murderer. In a tense climax, Marcelo pretends to be someone else and manages to record a confession on his cell phone.

With Renata's and Marcelo's help, the police catch Tiago. João Pedro goes free. Marcelo and Renata lost a lot in the journey. But are now in peace having made justice.
