- Synopsis
- “Twisted World” is a quest for happiness in a hostile world.
  Born out of wedlock, Milyu grows up in the mountains with the shepherds. At nine, a bear leaves him crippled for life. As an adolescent, he falls for a girl he can never have: Kina, the prettiest and wealthiest lass in the village.
  The Balkan War breaks out. Being incapacitated, Milyu never gets to fight and remains the only surviving bachelor in his village. He marries Kina.
  His rich father-in-law sends him out to graze his sheep. Keen to prove himself, Milyu takes up the best pastures. The other shepherds hire a mercenary to chase him out. Milyu starts for the village to see his pregnant wife but some gypsies rob him and beat him up. While in hospital, he realises that had he continued his path, he would have been killed.
  Returning to the village with a huge flock, Milyu asks his father-in-law to let him sell some sheep and build a house for his family. Old Angelachko refuses and the two get into a fight. Milyu is humiliated in front of his wife.
  The European War breaks out. Wanting to get rid of Milyu, Angelachko devises a plot to have him drafted. Before going to the front, Milyu takes his revenge at Angelachko. He is caught and sent to jail. Meanwhile, the war ends. No one from his detachment survives.
  Back home, Milyu takes his life in his own hands. Having realised his mistake, Angelachko gives him his last sheep. Milyu starts a business with Adil, a Greek animal trader. He gets rich quick but is swindled by Adil and loses everything. He is arrested for smuggling and sentenced to death. Just before the execution, the authorities realise that Adil is a spy and Milyu is innocent. The execution is called off.
  Years go by. Having caught his wife cheating, Milyu’s son Angel gets drunk and sets the house on fire. In the wreckage, he finds Old Angelachko’s buried treasure. “The world, my son – says Milyu – has a lot of twists and turns. You never know which is for the worse and which is for the better.”
