- Synopsis
- Amuriá Xerente (20) is an Indigenous woman from the ethnic group most affected by close contact with non-Indigenous society in the state of Tocantins. Intelligent and determined, she sees her acceptance into the medical program at the University of Brasília (UNB) and her move to the capital as the start of a new life—one free from the prejudice that has shadowed her for as long as she can remember.
  
  While her village celebrates the prospect of their first Xerente doctor, Amuriá changes her appearance and grows increasingly distant from her people’s culture and traditions. But the sudden death of her twin sister and non-Indigenous brother-in-law, just two months before her departure, and the arrival of her 4-year-old niece in the village, turn Amuriá’s world upside down.
