    • Argentina, late 2000. Sergio Sotomayor (30) lives in Córdoba and does not escape the economic crisis that the country is going through.
Unemployed, with three children in tow and a fourth on the way (all from different women), getting ahead becomes increasingly complicated. Although his personality does not denote it - he is fun, mischievous and a womanizer - the pressures he suffers translate into desperate sleepless nights and the increase in his addiction to cocaine.
The job he gets to tend the bar at a nightclub puts him in contact with a risky proposal: a group of drug traffickers offers him fifteen thousand euros to transport cocaine from Córdoba to Madrid. Cornered by debt, and by a future that seems too hostile, Sergio accepts.
The care taken to conceal three kilos of coke under a neoprene suit is not enough to elude the Barajas airport police; As soon as he sets foot in Europe he is discovered, arrested and, after an agile judicial process, sentenced to nine years in prison.
During his first days in prison, as a result of stress and a savage beating, a strange illness that was dormant inside him awakened: Systemic Lupus.
He remains hospitalized for an entire year, fighting Lupus while serving his sentence. This unusual disease, and the bloody treatment, expose him to temporary blindness, the loss of his teeth and even a psychosis caused, collaterally, by the medications. But despite everything, against all odds, Sergio recovers and returns to prison.
In the Madrid prison he meets all kinds of people: dangerous inmates, with whom he is at odds with his survival, and friendly ones who help him cope with confinement.
At the worst moment of his life, an activity that was always foreign to him appears to rescue him: art. Thanks to a cellmate, he learns the technique of “painting with thread” and clings to it desperately. The calm that this activity transmits to him is such that he spends entire days practicing it and, as a result, achieves unimaginable successes; his thread works become a rage, are highly valued within the prison and even lead him to run his own art workshop.
In his growing interest in art, Sergio learns about Pablo Picasso’s painting “Guernica” and is enthusiastic about making a life-size replica of it (7.7 m x 3.5 m) only with threads. This utopian desire, which requires thousands of euros, leads him to move with great tenacity; He sends hundreds of letters to the authorities asking for funding for his project. And after several months of insistence, he gets the support he needs.
Finally, after overcoming various setbacks, the replica of Guernica is completed. It is an incredible work, the most impressive ever done inside a prison, which reflects Sergio's passion, his will to change and what men are capable of achieving.
