- Synopsis
- For 18 consecutive days in 2006, “Akai Ito” became the most visited
  site on a cell phone portal. The online story initially garnered over
  16 million. The print version of “Akai Ito” has sold over 1.8 million
  copies since its release in 2007. Now it becomes TV series and Feature
  Film synchronized in December 2008.
  “Akai Ito” is a teen romance that deals with the universal innocence and
  burgeoning idealism of post-pubescence along with the confusion,
  disillusion and struggle that accompanies the transition from teen to
  young adult. But it also serves as a window into contemporary teenage
  life in Japan, middle school classmates who find each other in their
  search for relationships that are meant to be no matter how much the
  world tries to intervene.
  But destiny can have a dark side to it, too, and a shocking revelation
  from both of their pasts compels Atsushi to pull away from Mei. The
  devastating separation then unleashes a wave of misfortune upon Mei: the
  death of a loved one, drug addiction and domestic violence. As
  circumstances seek to take control of her life, Mei struggles to
  maintain her faith in the tenuous thread of destiny that will reunite
  her with her true love.
