- Synopsis
- Inspired by true events, “Wonder Mama” tells the story of Ah-Oi (Petrina FUNG Bo-bo), a 49-year-old lady librarian on the verge of retirement, whose mellow world is catastrophically shattered as she learns that her teenage maid is impregnated by her own 70-year-old father Ng(Kenneth TSANG). Ng wants Ah-Oi to take care of the newborn, but the whole family suspects the real father is someone else. Ah-Oi’s disgruntled mother (Susan SIU Yam-Yam) seeks dramatic resolutions, making the house an impossible place to live. Torn between her parents’ divorce at an old age, the pressure of raising the newborn, her missing husband and her 30-year-old unemployed son who still lives with her, Ah-Oi finds herself stymied - she can never get the peaceful, ordinary, drama-free life she desires.
  Talented Hong Kong director Ko Chi-Sum, in the most light-hearted and humorous manner, depicts the challenges that Hong Kongers in their fifties are facing: sandwiched between the old and young, they stand on their feet as life deliver the most unexpected blows time after time. Supported by a distinguished ensemble cast, veteran actress Fung Bo-bo gives one of her most compelling and emotionally complex performances in her five-decade career.
