- Spanning 5 continents, 8 countries, 25 cities, THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING argues that the deep changes to our relationship with nature and to each other required to tackle climate change should not be viewed as punishments to fear, but as a kind of gift. We are hungering for such transformations on many fronts, from the spiritual to the economic. Climate change, by threatening our very survival, can serve as the catalyst for us to finally rise to these challenges. The climate crisis is unfolding simultaneous to a global economic crisis, one which has made life more precarious for billions, sharpened inequality between rich and poor, and is currently being paid for through deep cuts to much needed social services. Faith in the “free market” system is severely shaken, rage at elites is soaring and few are under any illusion that the underlying problems have been fixed.
  What climate change offers is a chance to solve the ecological and economic crises simultaneously – we can avert ecological chaos by changing an economic model that is already in need of serious transformation. In fact, changing our economy in some fundamental ways – well beyond some token “green jobs” -- is our only real hope of combating climate change.
