    • Synopsis
    • Missy Sterious desperately wants to be a rock star. Instead, she’s living a less-than- comfortable life touring tiny clubs and bars in the American Southwest. Childhood trauma, undiagnosed mental illness, self-medication, and a deep feeling of hopelessness have led her to a nervous breakdown.
Her breakdown manifests in a crime spree that starts with assaulting a member of her indifferent audience, abandoning her bandmates, and ends in the death of a homicidal cop on the edge of the vast New Mexico desert. With nowhere else to go, Missy flees deeper into the wastes--hoping to escape punishment for her actions.
Missy finds herself on the precipice of death--dehydrated, wounded, and experiencing withdrawal. During her journey she is haunted by hallucinations of large pyramids and of a strange humanoid creature stalking her trail. She collapses in a puddle of her own urine, certain that the end is near. Before she slips off forever, she is nearly eaten by the thing she had believed to be a vision. The wicked thing crawls ever closer, hungry and violent. When it nears, Missy can see that it looks like a coyote with extended limbs and scorched skin. Missy is unable to move from fear, but at the last moment a light shines over the horizon, scaring the creature away. As Missy passes out she sees her savior— a bearded old coot.
The old coot is none other than TV Tom, one of Missy’s favorite artists. Tom was a wildly successful singer/songwriter that disappeared nearly thirty years before and was assumed either dead or abducted by aliens. In reality-- he has been living as a hermit to escape the fame machine built around him. He is aware of the creature that followed Missy, for he has eluded it for decades. It is an evil spirit born of atomic testing and hungry for Tom’s mind. The only thing keeping him safe are the pyramid-like statues he built after envisioning them in a strange dream.
After sharing a drink or three (or more), Missy and Tom become fast friends, pushing each other forward and reminding each other of the importance of their art. Missy’s presence inspires Tom to sneak away and try playing at a nearby biker bar. Missy follows him and watches him perform to a bored and distracted crowd, but before she is able to tell Tom how much she loved his performance, they are attacked by the creature.
Missy and Tom are able to escape, but not without Tom suffering horrible wounds from the monster. Newly vulnerable, the duo realize that their only way to be truly free of the creature is by fighting back.
