    • Synopsis
    • In 1963, the poet Rodrigo Machado crosses the Amazon jungle together with a group of guerrillas, to join the peasant movements in Peru. The goal is to reach Peruvian lands in search of medicine, food, and transport, with the intent to then return for a larger group. During his journey, Rodrigo travels through dreamlike and ambiguous landscapes, with fuzzy boundaries between dreams, and reality. All the while, premonitory apparitions, guide him little by little towards the end of his journey.

This journey of spiritual transformation, where dying becomes an act to purify oneself and transcend to life, is a story of survival, narrated by Alberto, at 84 years old, from his small residence in a Lima neighborhood.

The river is not a simple recreation of reality, but transforms it and comments on it along the way. It is a reminiscence, a fictional story inspired by the last days of the poet Javier Heraud, reimagining how that encounter between the poet/guerrilla and nature must have been, in the depths of the Amazon jungle.
