- The day of an exile in Paris, the solitude of a man who faces ever unfulfilled requests. A demand for exile that is delayed, a search of a landlord that has disappeared, a car that gets towed and then picked up by the police. The events that take place don't carry much importance without the sensation of penetrating into a universe where daily reality meshes with the extraordinary. A dead bird that drops from the sky, a naked woman's corpse, the landlord's overflowing mailbox filled with initials that produce the word "GOD", an Asian Catholic community in Paris during the Chinese New Year. 2012, year of the Dragon is not a year like the others: it is a year whose animal is the only one an emperor could wear. Hu Wei's first fiction film is about a man who was exiled, but we don't how nor why. The film says nothing of his story, it only touches on chance encounters of different destinies, as if determined by the roll of a die. Due to there being so many possible symbols of an underlying conscience, a direct perception of it is rendered intangible.
