    • Synopsis
    • Late 1800s. Joseon Dynasty. Due to an erroneous map a group of men, including Kim Jeong-ho’s father, perishes whilst travelling through one of country’s remote mountainous regions.

Years later Kim (Cha), a cartographer, sets out on a long journey across the Korean peninsula recording its topography which he vows to make accessible to ordinary people. Leaving his family behind, his expedition is beset with difficulties and life threatening danger. People label him crazy but driven by the memory of his father he’s determined to succeed.

Finally, he completes his journey and a map, known as the Daedongyeojido or The Great Map of the East Land is finally produced. Yet, before being able to fulfil his promise and bring his life’s work to the people, the king’s father Daewongun (Yu Jun-sang) demands the drawings in order to gain the upper hand in his power struggle with the Andong Kim clan.
