    • Synopsis
    • In "The Lioness Within," we embark on an extraordinary journey following the life of Graciela Casillas, a pioneering figure in the martial arts world. Her story spans over four decades, beginning in the 1980s when she started teaching martial arts, and it's a testament to resilience and the fight for women's rights.

Graciela's prowess as a kickboxer and boxer during the late '70s and early '80s saw her crowned as world champion in both disciplines. With an impressive record of 33 professional fights and 18 knockouts, she retired undefeated. Surprisingly, her achievements remained largely unknown, even in her hometown.

A turning point came in 1981 when she crossed paths with Dan Inosanto, a legendary martial artist and instructor. Under his guidance, her martial arts knowledge expanded immensely, encompassing Jeet Kune Do, Filipino Kali, and various weapon-based disciplines. Inosanto played a pivotal role in her development, shaping her into a multi-faceted martial artist.

Graciela Casillas's legacy is marked by her trailblazing achievements as the first woman to simultaneously hold world titles in boxing and kickboxing. She attributes much of her success to the influence of Bruce Lee, who inspired her to adapt martial arts as a form of self-expression.

"The Lioness Within" explores the profound teacher-student relationship between Graciela and Dan Inosanto, shedding light on the transformative impact of this bond. It also delves into the broader theme of the female legacy in martial arts, celebrating martial arts as a means of empowerment and echoing Bruce Lee's philosophy.

This documentary is a tribute to Graciela Casillas, a fierce female warrior who broke barriers and roared for justice in a male-dominated arena.
