- At the start of the sixties, Roberto Rossellini, the most famous of the Italian Film directors (Rome, Open City; Stromboli; Germany, Year Zero)decided to turn away from the conventional film industry to devote himself to an immense project. He wanted to create a series of historical programmes retracing the adventure of humanity from the time of the cave-dwellers up to the conquest of outer space. This project was to have direct influence on Rosselini's later cinematic work and this documentary sets out to relate the background and experiences of this incredible enterprise.
