    • Synopsis
    • In the depths of the Peruvian Amazon, Pishak, a young Awajún with a special bond with birds and nature, bears the scars of water contamination since birth. Raised with ancestral values by his grandfather, a spiritual leader, Pishak discovers his destiny as a warrior protector of his people through an ayahuasca ceremony. During this ceremony, he learns of an ancient pact made thousands of years ago between humans and birds to ensure mutual protection.

To seal this sacred bond, Pishak must perform a rite of passage: leaping with his feathered mantle from the highest waterfall so that the birds can signal humanity’s turn to protect nature. However, the ritual is disrupted when the military intervenes. The government has occupied Awajún territories to exploit them for oil, sparking violent confrontations. Amid the chaos, Pishak, his father, and his grandfather face brutal police violence. In a desperate act to protect his father, Pishak fatally wounds a police officer, but his father is killed in the confrontation, leaving Pishak consumed by guilt. His grandfather, the only family he has left, flees with him into the forest.

Guided by Segundo, an Awajún who smuggles timber from the Amazon, Pishak begins a grueling journey to the capital. Determined to honor his father’s memory and fight for his people’s rights, he struggles with the weight of his guilt and the burden of his destiny. Along the way, Pishak’s journey is interrupted in the Andes, where he encounters migratory birds. They reveal a dire warning: the birds will cease flying if he fails to fulfill the pact. This revelation intensifies his sense of responsibility and desperation. Tormented by his mission, Pishak begins crafting his wings to fulfill the sacred promise, even as the memory of his father weighs heavily on him.

Upon reaching Lima, Pishak is imprisoned after being falsely accused of sedition and defying authority. In prison, he meets Yumi, a young Quechua woman, and her mother, a fruit vendor at the local market. They become his friends and provide him with a semblance of humanity and hope amid his suffering. However, after escaping prison, Pishak faces the hostility of the sprawling city, forced to survive on the streets. His only guide is his connection with the birds and his ancestral worldview, which continues to drive him toward his mission of becoming a winged warrior.

As the birds cease to fly, Pishak reaches a breaking point. In a desperate act, he climbs to the rooftop of a petroleum corporation building, wearing his tattered winged mantle. Yumi tries to stop him, pleading for him to reconsider. But with courage and resolve, Pishak extends his arms and leaps into the void. His body is never found.
