    • Synopsis
    • After being absent for many years Sheila (38), a nurse from Switzerland returns to her former childhood home in the jungle. Accompanied by her controlling husband Thomas (41), she visits her dying father Balthazar (70). He is a former engineer from Switzerland and lives on a remote piece of land surrounded by mangrove forest that he calls his “paradise”. In his withdrawn life as a self-proclaimed protector and defender of nature, his only social and emotional contact
is the local indigenous woman Ara (68) who visits and supplies him once in a while.
Shortly after their arrival Balthazar wants to convince her to take over the family property after his death and continue his fight for the jungle—the home of her childhood and memories. Torn between the desire to see her dying father again and the fear of his obsessive dream of paradise, the encounter turns into a disturbing journey. Reality and fantasy, present and past overlap and the only solution becomes a transformation.
When Thomas dies in the jungle, Sheila and Balthazar disappear in search of their salvation. There, Sheila collapses and reappears as the 8-year-old girl she once was. She wanders through nature as a child and meets her father as a creature, who shows her the spirit of Thomas.
After this incident the remote property shifts into a feverish dream and Sheila starts to take
care devotedly of her father. She tries to keep the property in shape, but the force of nature brings down the dreamy paradise. It collapses together with Balthazar’s death. Nature takes back what belongs to it and Sheila is finally set free into her own life.
