- Synopsis
- Exile, the death sentence, social ostracism, rejection – words that for decades were synonymous with Spinalonga.
  Doctors, sociologists, people associated with those suffering from Hansen’s disease, as well as surviving inmates of the island’s leper colony, talk about this ancient disease. They tell stories of the deformities induced by it, the means of infection, the stigmatism of whole families, the social consequences of incarceration, as well as the struggle of those isolated on the island as they fought for better living conditions, some hope of survival and, in the end, a cure.
  In fact this rocky, apparently insignificant little island has great lessons to teach us about the struggle for existence and the importance of hope and meaning in human life.
