Franco, since his youth, medicates himself due to his emotional instability and he has vowed he is never going to become a father. He lives in Valparaiso with Leonora, a Chilean visual artist and they both have a passionate loving relationship. Franco forgets his medication so easily.
Five years into their coexistence, the couple enters a crisis when in Leonora, the need of becoming a mother urges her at her 40’s. Franco gets destabilized when facing Leonora’s insistence. Their relationship becomes violent and Franco returns to Mendoza looking for peace.
Leonora does not accept this separation and hires Franco’s neighbor to watch him. Franco starts a new relationship with Alejandra, she gets pregnant and this makes Franco go totally berserk.
The neighbor finds out about Alejandra’s pregnancy and tells Leonora about it, creating in Leonora a desire of revenge. Hurt, she creates a plan: Sends a goodbye letter to Franco, telling him she’s leaving an inheritance for him with Thomas, a friend from the couple.
Franco travels to Chile looking for this mysterious inheritance and stays in Leonora’s house. In there, his crisis goes deeper, sensing Leonora’s presence, he thinks he’s seeing her and does not understand the sense of the inheritance: a bottle of wine and a canvas painted by her. The memories of his life as a couple come alive in Franco.
When returning from this trip with the canvas and the bottle of wine, he decides to go to the psychiatrist to get proper medication.
Alejandra torments Franco with her pregnancy while he becomes obsessed to discover something mysterious behind the inheritance.
Thomas visits Franco and he implies that Leonora killed herself while pregnant and confesses that he had sexual intercourse with Leonora. Franco kicks him out and his crisis goes even bigger, starting to distort reality with the help of the manipulations Leonora had left. Franco confuses Alejandra with the late Leonora and, on an unexpected action, he ends up shocking her. Uncontrolled to solve the enigma, he destroys the inherited canvas poisoning himself with chemicals expelling for the broken canvas.
Agonizing, Leonora shows up and explains her plan to make him believe she had killed herself and runs away just before the police shows up.
