- After industrialization wiped out economic activity and left the inhabitants of the fishing island of Santa María del Mar disheartened, their fate is on the brink of a turnaround when an opportunity arises for a fish packing plant to set up shop in the village. The only catch: persuading a doctor to relocate there. Germán, the island’s leader, rallies the locals to “win over” the city doctor, Mateo, who will be taken aback to discover that, coincidentally, his beloved American football is the local sport and his favorite Indian cuisine dish is a Santa María classic. For Germán and the rest of the townspeople, there are no bounds when it comes to captivating Mateo and breathing new life into Santa María del Mar.
