    • Synopsis
    • In a traditional Kyrgyz family, only girls are born. Following an ancient custom, they are named after wishes for the birth of a son—Sandažok, Uularno, Janil, Adash, Burul. Each of these names reflects a dedication to the son they hope for in the future, casting a negative light on the girls themselves. These names reveal little about the girls, except that they were not awaited with the same anticipation as a boy. The mother is pregnant with her sixth child, and everyone is wondering whether the long-awaited heir will finally arrive.

The main character is a girl named Arno, who believes (according to traditional superstition) that because of the birthmark on her lip, the words she speaks become reality. One day, in a moment of anger and desperation, Arno (Uularno) utters a wish for her father's death. Tragically, he passes away shortly after, never knowing whether he would have had a son. Overwhelmed by guilt, Arno blames herself for his death, but eventually comes to accept her fate. This pivotal moment marks the end of her childhood, forever changing her understanding of life and family.

The film is based on the true childhood story of director Dalmira Tilepbergen.
