    • Synopsis
    • On November 30, 1912, the ship Vallona founders in heavy fog outside the little town of Krabbsjögrund. The captain, Ekwall, blames the accident on a young maritime pilot who goes down with the ship. No one ever learns the truth – that the captain himself caused the collision and locked up the pilot inside the bridge. Until this day the ghost story of a demonic pilot who steers the ship up on the reef is told. And it is said that he will be back to seek his revenge on the town.
November 30, 2012. Even though he is haunted by nightmares, seemingly trying to tell him something, 12 year old Karl Dymling is excited about joining his mother on a diving expedition outside Krabbsjögrund. The task is to look for a rare coral that can save the sea environment and stop Captain Ekwall’s ancestor Doctor Ekwall from transforming the picturesque town into an industry plant.
But suddenly the expedition turns urgent. Karl’s mother has to leave at once and Karl can no longer come along. It might get dangerous. He has to stay ashore with his grandfather, reduced to a silly child whilst Sara, a girl his age, is teasing him.
In the town’s haunted house, a scary old woman, Svarta Siri, tells Karl that he has a mission.
In the local church Karl discovers a hidden votive ship, a very accurate model of Vallona. Karl can actually hear the ghost of the pilot scream from inside the bridge. He recognizes the sound from his nightmares. Scared, Karl bumps into the ship. The movement sets the pilot free - and supernatural forces are set in motion. A compact fog rolls in from the sea. The legend tells that this is when the evil pilot will return for his revenge.
Dr Ekwall plots to sink Karl’s mother’s ship. Together with Sara, Karl heads out to sea to try and save his mother from Dr Ekwall’s plans – and from the ghostship Vallona.
Karl’s mother’s ship founders, but the crew is rescued. Karl and Sara head for the shore in their boat. But the motor fails and soon the fog is closing in on them again. Karl’s nightmare becomes real. Vallona is coming.
Karl realizes that he has to overcome his fears. He climbs aboard Vallona and manages to release the pilot. Karl falls overboard, but surfaces with a sample of the coral.
Svarta Siri dies as the pilot finds his peace. He was her long lost fiancé. Karl has saved Krabbsjögrund and the sea environment. Sara is now his friend and he is no longer just a quirky kid.
