    • “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives.
It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.”

In a semi-futuristic Cape Town where breathing masks and air filters are everyday fixtures, youth culture carries on as usual. Experts struggle to control increasingly severe reactions to the toxic compounds infecting earth’s atmosphere, while ELLA (22) – an image-conscious wild child – struggles to cope with the sting of her first rejection.

When ELLA takes a new designer drug at her ex-boyfriend’s house party, she inadvertently becomes an unintended test subject. Instead of the escapist fix she was expecting, the new drug is in fact a specially designed retroviral that introduces foreign DNA into the human genome. Her self-destructive gesture triggers a shocking transformation. As the new genetic material alters her body, ELLA is forced to face a self she does not recognize.

When she is discovered by SOLOMON (28) – the unlikely genius responsible for the drug’s creation – the secret he shares reveals that the human species faces imminent extinction. ELLA is the key to our salvation, but only if her mind proves to be as elastic and resilient as her body.

For ELLA sees SOL only as he appears to be: a hostile Cape Flats gangster with malevolent intentions. She is convinced that she must escape his grasp and seek urgent medical attention. Once she manages to evade him, she promptly surrenders herself to the mercy of O’CONNORS, a charming doctor who fits her worldview as the type of person she should be able to trust: immaculately presented, high-profile and white collar.

But her faith is grievously misplaced, and she soon finds herself in far more peril than before. If she wants to survive on her own terms, she must team up with SOL and embrace her ‘new’ identity.

From a covert research facility to the back alleys of the gang-regulated Cape Flats, from the dangerous aspirations of powerful corporations to the most underestimated and disenchanted young minds, THE FIX fuses the action / sci-fi elements of films like Species and Resident Evil with the gritty youth culture found in films like Project X, Thirteen and Kids.
