    • In 1952, Anita Conti was the first woman oceanographer to be accepted on a trawler to take part in an Atlantic cod-fishing campaign. Alone with her camera, she spent six months documenting the work of sixty sailors. As the nets overflowed with fish, she sounded a visionary warning about the possible depletion of this resource.
