- The famous London architect Michael Willberg is not going through a good time: his works, presumptuous and metaphysical in nature, seem to have lost ground in the face of the advance of modern art, as expressed by the result of a last tender to build the New Liverpool Cathedral, in which his project lost to that of Madrid's Xavier Rijón. new figure of world architecture. To get out of depression, at the urging of Alba, his Latin girlfriend 30 years younger than him, Michael decides to undertake the construction of his own house in the place where she is from and where they met ten years ago: a jungle region of the Yucatan Peninsula, in Mexico.
  
  Once settled there and with the construction of the house underway, Michael finds that Gregor, her dog, attacked and killed two snakes. Michael buries them in a part of the jungle that opens to the bottom of the land, in what appears to be a small natural hole in the ground. The next day the scene is repeated, and Michael, when burying them, discovers that the hole from the previous day is now the size of a well. On the third day, Michael wakes up to the sound of a crumble, which returns to the pit so deep that it no longer allows you to see its bottom. Michael begins to suspect that the snakes were always the same and that this well has magical properties, as if every time something enters it it comes back to life at the cost of its enlargement. To confirm his theory, Michael lets Gregor ingest an ant poison that he had placed in the garden to fight a plague. Soon after, Gregor dies and Michael throws him into the well. When he covers it, he realizes that it is not ordinary stone, but a type of ancient brick. The next day, the earth trembles and gives way, discovering a beautiful cenote there. Moreover, Gregor is not only alive, but also looks neater than before, as if he had become younger.
  
  Fully aware of the power he has awakened, Michael investigates the land where he is building his home and discovers that it was part of an ancient Mayan city destroyed by the Spanish, where on each winter solstice a ritual of good fortune was carried out that included the sacrifice of his best men.
  
  On the verge of madness, Michael begins to suspect that he was not the one who chose the place to build his home, and that he may not even be building it for himself.
