The Disenchanted a love story about a restless writer in his forties and a young activist woman who wants to save seals in the Mediterranean Sea. This love story starts in 1988 and over the course of five years; its passion changes and becomes ‘destructive’ due to the choices that they make.

- Synopsis
- Kuzey is a writer in his forties with a political past. Having been unsuccessful at running two literary magazines in Istanbul, he has moved to Karaburun, planning to write his novel (The Disenchanted) and has ended up living on the peninsula. He has taken over the management of a hotel along with Sami, a friend from his youth whose handicap he is personally responsible for.
  A love blooms between him and 22 years-old Safak, who has come to Karaburun in April 1998 to do research on seals. Safak will be moving to Africa as part of a research project. Her passion causes Safak to leave and come back to Karaburun five separate times. At the end Kuzey does not accept Safak's invitation to go to Africa with her. Safak says if you will not go to Africa then I will stay. Kuzey, with the belief that 'sometimes, love means letting go’, does not say 'stay'. Thinking of Safak's future, he makes it so that she leaves him. Sometime later he gets the news from Safak's family that they have not received any news from her in sometime. Her family arrives but the search for her does not provide any leads. Safak is missing.
  In the May of 2003, Kuzey and fisherman Findik Ibram, who is also a scuba diver, save 14 refugees from drowning. However, one of the refugees is an Iraqi woman who upon not seeing her daughter among those rescued, throws herself back into the turbulent waters yelling ' my daughter, my daughter'. This event is very traumatic for Kuzey, who is hailed as a hero for having saved the lives of 14 people. Due to the economic difficulties with the hotel Kuzey approaches his brother Salim for his part of the inheritance money only to find that there is none left.
  July 2003 sees the arrival of Çigdem, a 25 years-old young woman. Çigdem is the investment consultant at Salim's company. Once she studies the books and the debts of the hotel she brings an offer to the table, upon Salim wishes they would pay off all the debts in exchange for half the share in the hotel. During Çigdem's time in Karaburun she develops a romantic interest in Kuzey.
  The film with cuts between the years of 1998 and 2003 will focus on the love between Kuzey and Safak, Kuzey's pain and regrets, his friendship and conflicts with Sami. We will also watch his search for 'Benek (Spot)' a dog that Kuzey and Safak have adopted but who is missing. Upon Findik finding the remains of Safak's car at the bottom of the sea, on the morning of August 27, 2003 (the day on which planet Mars has come the closest to earth in 60 thousand years) Kuzey leaves a letter for Sami and the notes for his book (The Disenchanted) for Çigdem and leaves the hotel. He goes to meet Safak...
