But they’re not here to help. They weld the exit closed behind them, and the elderly man announces he’s here to destroy the Dam. His name is Grigori Tereshchenko, and he helped build the facility nearly 60 years ago as a power source for an underwater prison. Now he must bury the prison’s gargantuan occupant under its debris. He produces a compact but powerful explosive from a briefcase, and prepares to start the detonation sequence. Jess knows that in doing this they’ll flood the valley below, potentially killing thousands. But Tereshchenko tells them he has no choice. And he shows them what the prison was built to hold. Through a portal into the inky black water, they see a 747-sized Monster waking from it’s slumber. And it’s laying more Eggs.
For a moment Tereshchenko is speechless. This Monster has been his life’s work, but he never understood how it reproduced. Tim want’s to know why they haven’t just killed it. Tereshchenko says it’s skin is impervious to traditional weapons. Burying the Monster was the only choice. Before Tereshchenko finishes activating the explosive’s detonator, the monster breaks free of it’s bonds, and begins making it’s way to the surface; to the world. When Tereshchenko attempts to turn the explosive device off, it malfunctions, and begins its countdown. Not only will the Monster escape, but the Dam will become their tomb.
