    • Synopsis
    • he Cornfield tells a story about farmers and their bond with the land. Yu Mi lives with his grandma in a small village down the T’ai-hang Mountains. With the villagers all going out to make a living in the city and the seniors moving to the “Socialist New Village” organized by the government, the already sparsely populated village is left desolate. Yu Mi and grandma are the only family staying behind. Yu Mi’s father died when he was 5, and his mother left ever since. Yu Mi is afraid that his mother couldn’t find him if he leaves home, so he insists on staying. Yu Mi was raised up by grandma who also owns a corn field. This is what life looks like in the farthest reach of Shanxi province. The end of summer is when Yu Mi and grandma grow corns. At his leisure, Yu Mi would lie down in the corn fields, enjoying the village and the touch of the leafy stalks as if they were the hands of his mother. Yu Mi sees corns as women, and his mother. One day he tells grandma that he wants to marry a corn. Grandma realizes that Yu Mi has gone insane…
