Synopsis
Paris - Nowadays: Retired Colonel Raoul Duplan is found shot dead in his home. The investigation achieves no progress until the delivery of an unsigned letter that says: "The Colonel died in Saint Arnaud". Saint-Arnaud - Algeria - 1957: Guy Rossi a young law graduate enlisted before his call to duty in order to get away from a romantic failure. He is assigned to the garrison of Saint Arnaud in the East of Algeria, where he is to be the Aide de Camp of the commanding officer there, Colonel Duplan. Rossi's mission will be to provide his legal opinion on what the special powers unanimously approved by the National Assembly allow. Rossi's findings are clear: No measures are to be ruled out, even those that might be contrary to the great governing principles of our law. This seal of approval will lead both men to their death: one in Algeria, the other, forty years later, in France.
