The British never accepted his reconversion back into Sikhism, the faith of his birth. Prince Duleep Singh’s long struggle to regain his identity and dignity took him across the world and was never allowed to set foot in his own Kingdom by the British. Maharaja Duleep Singh, died a pauper, alone in a Paris hotel. He was buried as a Christian in an English countryside, denying him his final wishes, even in death.
