    • Synopsis
    • The Best Goalkeeper in the World is the untold story of Petar Radenkovic – Radi who reached the status of legend in the 1960s Germany while remained completely unknown in his native country. He was the first football “gastarbeiter” (guest worker) and he influenced the German society of the time not just as a goalkeeper, but also as a charismatic celebrity. For Germany, which was still recovering from the embarrassment of war, Radi represented some kind of super hero who was allowed to do unthinkable things. His famous runs outside of the penalty area were not just football innovation, but the acts of freedom. Radi has brought fashion, courage and grain of madness into the dullness of conquered, humiliated, and defeated Germany. The magazine “Bravo” conducted a survey with young Germans in 1967 – Who is your idol? Winnetou occupied first place, Kennedy was second, and Petar Radenkovic was third. Football legends Beckenbauer, Uwe Seeler, Sepp Maier are his friends and fans, and so are Julio Iglesias, Werner Herzog, Wim Wenders, and Zubin Mehta. Even Prime Minister Angela Merkel refers to him as her childhood hero. And while Germans remember this remarkable man, he lives in Belgrade totally unknown.
