An anthropologist travels to the northwest of Argentina to investigate the existence of the Despenador (the Bearer of Sorrows), a character who ends the life of the sick who won’t die, using the technique of an embrace, preventing them from infecting others with their breath. The anthropologist attends religious celebrations, rituals in small towns and a bullfight in a remote place, while cut by questions about his affections, concerns about his health and doubts about what led him to this desert region where the air is so thin. Here he discovers the importance of listening to his own breath and that death can be as visible as the wind.
