    • Synopsis
    • This documentary was made after conducting a research trip in Paris and attending exhibitions, while also visiting multiple galleries. Compiling 256 photos of six changes in costume, modelled by the burlesque performer Duchess deBerry in the Art Nouveau style and then producing paintings inspired from them. A personal battle struggling with acute social anxiety, chronic pain and fatigue, the documentary is a triumph of the creative spirit. She gave me her personal insights of Art Nouveau, which I comment on in “The Art Nouveau Manifesto”. More than just a history lesson I plan to go deep into the style and techniques of this wonderful artistic movement!
I’ve worked through my personal demons and still managed to successfully achieve my targets. The Musee D’Orsay had a beautiful collection of Art Nouveau and Belle Epoque paintings and objects. I thought that would be the best collection I would get here in Paris but boy was I wrong! I searched through The Louvre, Musee, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Musée Rodin. I watched the beautiful moving images created by Gustav Klimt projected on the walls of L’Atelier des Lumières. I found the last glass metro entrances designed by Hector Guimard and took photos of Pont Alexandre iii, one of the last of the Art Nouveau bridges crossing the river Seine. I searched and found the Lavirotte building designed by the architect Jules Lavirotte, the jewellry of Georges Fouquet and the vases of Émile Gallé. I visited Musee Maxim’s. Currently owned by Pierre Cardin this is the largest private collection of Art Nouveau furniture and objects in the world. I have intimately seen lamps by Tiffany’s jewelry by René Lalique, glassworks by Émile Gallé, posters and sketches by Toulouse-Lautrec. I even sat at a table of the Moulin Rouge and watched the incredible performances, recreating what some of the masters of Art Nouveau and residents of Montmatre would have done at the turn of the 10th century. The list is endless. What can we learn from this Manifesto? Join me as I rediscover the ideas and themes of this beautiful and brief artistic movement.
