    • Synopsis
    • Early 20's. Alejster Crowley, British occultist, father of modern Satanism, names "the wickest man in the World", funds an Abbey in Cefalù, Sicily (Italy), after a travel of mystical research in Egypt. From there he bring esoteric notions that where spread between a circle of intellectuals, gathering secretly in the Abbey for debates, ritualistic activities and ceremonial orgies, starting the Cult called "Thelema".
On a Friday night, Crowley asked for a very specific ritual. He gathered several attendants asking them to wear masks, promising that something would have happened. Three of his Scarlet Women, performed the esoteric ritual dance of the Harpies, the witches half woman half vulture who were able to kidnap the soul of men. What happened in front of the eyes of the masked presents was astonishing. A woman, wearing the three faced mask of Hecate, has been possessed by the performance of the dancers, with her body shaking in compulsive spasms until she crashed down on the floor, passed out or, as someone whispered, dead. The unthinkable happened in the end, when the bodies of the three sorceresses start glowing in their sensual movement, and the woman woke up from her mesmerizing sleep, undressed by her mask and, as somebody has been swearing, with completely brand new eyes. Somebody heard whispering "Love is the Law, Love under Will.".
The 7th Night of Thelema is shot, as a long sequence, in Dogma VR. Dogma VR is a Manifesto of rules (by the director) serving as method to shoot immersive exps able to give the impression to the viewer to actually living in a different situation, not anymore artificial. In the case of The 7th Night of Thelema the choreography recreates the story of a "witches corps de ballets" that haunts the body of a woman for kidnapping her souls, "washing it", and bringing it back with a new awareness. The experimental narrative lets the dance itself to tell the story, making the VR exp as a sort of twisted musical, where one of the numbers, the "agony", is a possession inspired by the extreme one performed by Isabelle Adjani in Possession by Andrej Zulawski. In a production design tributing the "black lodge" in the Twin Peaks series, the viewer will feel in the situation of Tom Cruise in Eyes Wide Shut, when wearing the ritual mask means wearing the headset. Lighting makes a very subliminal but narrative effect, as they follow the progress of the dance until the final part, "the ecstasy", when UV black light makes the bodies of the witches glow, with a special body painting. On the same way that Mario Bava made Barbara Steele suddenly age in Black Sunday.
