- A realistic and poignant look at a volunteer basketball coach and his relationship on and off the courts with his young team… On court, the players and coach prepare to participate in the “Soul in the Hole” championship. Instead of focusing only on the actual games, much time is spent off the court in interviews with the players and their families. Particular emphasis on Coach Kenny Jones’ attempts to help the troubled star player Ed Smith. Set in the gritty neighborhoods of Brooklyn for a portrait of urban African American life.
