- Synopsis
- One might say that Pipe is a typical American teenager. He likes to play soccer and his video games. However, this summer vacation will be like no other, when he is sent to Ecuador against his will to be with his father, Luis Felipe, an eccentric treasure hunter. Little does he know, that like his father, who at his age took on his own father's legacy of searching for the lost Inca Gold, now is his time to be introduced to the family's heritage, which he mockingly dismisses as a child's fantasy.
  Growing up in the shadow of his father's greatness, Luis Felipe refused to be anything else but a son. Knowing that his father's days are counted, he goes nuts and becomes increasingly obsessive about helping to accomplish his father's lifelong mission: to find history's biggest gold treasure buried deep in the uncharted llanganates jungle.
  However, Don Andrés desists of going to the next expedition suggesting him to take Pipe, leaving Luis Felipe heart broken and ambling aimlessly around his father's tropical estate. During a night of drunken stupor he realises a new purpose and takes action, becoming more determined than ever to continue in his father's footsteps to finish this task for his father before he dies. He brings along Pipe for the first time, who is apprehensive because his father was never close to him growing up and he doesn't understand why someone would still be looking for something after so many years of failures.
  Luis Felipe needs to find the treasure at all costs, even if it means heading into an area of the inhabitable Llanganates that has never been explored before with some of the roughest weather conditions imaginable.
  The expedition begins and Pipe meets the crew members, who are skeptical and nervous about Don Andrés not leading them anymore. Manri, who was Don Andrés' guide in the jungle for many years, gives Pipe his grandfather's journal documenting past expeditions. Luis Felipe gets more and more absorbed by the search, constantly pressuring the group to speed up the pace.
  Pipe is confronted with the real roughness of the Llanganates jungle: difficult paths among the thick vegetation, the lack of oxygen and vicious pumas. It is too difficult for him to continue and he has to slow down. After an argument with his even more obsessed father, Pipe decides to stay at the camp while Luis Felipe and Manri keep on hiking.
  Alone at the base camp, Pipe dives into his grandfather's journal and discovers other aspects of the expedition. He reads about his own father and starts to see him differently. In the meantime, the crew members help Pipe experience another type of jungle. Pipe contemplates its frightening beauty and learns about its mysticism and spirituality.
  The men embark on the final segment of the journey, hoping to uncover the secrets of the jungle. What they will find instead, is a path to the meaning of life, the generational knots that bring us into being, and the power of myth in the mind on those who choose to believe.
