- Monamour, an abandoned hamlet in the infinite expanse of Siberia.
  With his god-fearing grandfather and a stray dog, his only friend, little Lyoshka waits for his father to return. His uncle makes regular trips from a distant village with supplies, but when they no longer hear from him, food begins to run out. Soon, growing weak and increasingly cut off by the snow, the old man and his grandson must affront looters and wild dogs...
