She Was Not Alone is a poetic meditation on the life of Fatima, an aging nomadic woman facing an existential crisis. Iraq’s ancient marshes and her beloved buffalo are slowly dying. The camera follows her over a period of four years, inviting viewers into the precarious intimacy of her sublime world, a crossroads for birds, myths, travelers, and the rise and fall of civilizations. The last in her family to stay – through joy, solitude, hope, and heartbreak – Fatima faces countless physical and spiritual tests to preserve her way of life.
