    • Synopsis
    • Part 1 starts in the countryside, where Hani, 15 years old, is sitting under a caimito tree. She is joined by Lai, 14. She asks what secret she has this time. Hani smiles boastfully. Lai begs her to reveal the secret. Hani playfully refuses. Lai tickles Hani. Hani pushes her. Lai persists until she begins to tackle Hani and she is on top of Hani.

Throughout the story, they share intimate secrets of various members of their town. From the sacristan who is the son of a priest from a nearby town, to their high school teacher having a tryst with a former student of hers, to their male classmate having a gay sex video, to their friend who got impregnated by someone other than her boyfriend, to the crumbling relations of Lai’s parents, to a spinster aunt who later decided to move to her girlfriend’s house in Manila.

As they reveal and revel at these secrets, so too is the relationship of Hani and Lai, creating their own secret under the shade of the caimito tree. Until they are forced to part ways, and the varying social class of two make it inevitable for them to remain friends and keep in touch.

Part 2 happens a year later during the wedding of their friend, Jo-an. They soon realize how entwined the secrets of their town with their own. Hani has agreed to an arranged marriage with Gimo, a childhood friend who comes from a very traditional Chinese family and who was racked up in a high school gay sex scandal. On her part, Hani has agreed to it to help alleviate her family's huge financial woes. But a marriage might also be a way to cover up her own unresolved sexuality. Jo-an is about to marry Richard, a high school classmate whom she does not love. But she is carrying his child, the fruit of an affair that was meant to make another lover jealous. And then there's Lai, who has come home to pick up the pieces of the break up of her parents' separation. She has come back citified, at home with her newfound identity as a lesbian.

These teen-aged girls, on the cusp womanhood, will have been forever changed by the weekend. Family and societal pressures will have done that. Love, true or otherwise, will have done that. Reality of the everyday will have dictated that.
